Amherst Pick-Me-Ups was started around 2007 by two Umass students who thought it was tough to do things in Amherst without a car. It first began with a group called the Designated Driver’s Club, where people volunteered on-campus to bring people home (when there were no cabs after 1am).
During the fundraising times, the DD Club did baked cookie deliveries to keep afloat. The cookie delivery fundraisers were a success, and when everyone graduated, we had an idea to deliver many other types of items that students really wanted.
Like candy bars. Or paper. Or Fresh Side. Or orange juice. Or toilet paper. From then on, we created a small group of people who’d go out and get these things for people around Amherst who didn’t have the means to do it themselves. And from there, Amherst Pick-Me-Ups was born.
We are not a gigantic operation, but just a group of current and former students that provide a need for the community. We make it easier for people to get things where it is either hard to get or too expensive to pick up. It’s that simple. If there is something you need to be brought to you, call Amherst Pick-Me-Ups. We will do it for you!
